Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 27, 2026
Yuki ("we," "us") is a spontaneous-hangout app that helps you see which friends are free right now, make a plan, and meet up. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and how it's shared — including with your friends inside the app, since coordinating plans is the whole point.
Yuki is currently in early beta with a small group of testers. This policy will be revised as the app develops.
Information we collect
Account information
- Name and email address, provided by Google or Apple when you sign in — we don't collect a separate password, since sign-in is handled entirely by Google/Apple.
- A username, display name, and any profile details you choose to add (bio, interests, city, avatar).
Location
- Location sharing is off by default and only active if you turn it on. When enabled, your approximate or precise location may be shown to friends on the map, used to suggest nearby activities, and used to estimate travel time when planning to meet a friend.
- An optional "background sharing" setting keeps your location visible to friends even when the app is closed. This is a separate, explicit toggle from basic location sharing, and can be turned off at any time.
- You control who can see your location (e.g. all friends, specific friend groups) through the app's sharing settings.
Contacts
- If you choose to find friends already using Yuki, your device's contacts are hashed on your device before anything is sent to our servers — we never see or store your contacts in plain, readable form. The hashed values are used only to check for matches against other Yuki users who've done the same.
Photos and camera
- Photos you choose to upload — for your profile, an activity's cover photo, or an activity's photo gallery — are stored so they can be shown to the people who can see that profile or activity.
Activity and usage information
- Activities you create or join, RSVPs, friend connections and friend groups, comments, and similar in-app activity.
- Basic diagnostic and crash information used to keep the app working reliably.
- A device push-notification token, so we can notify you about invites, RSVPs, and activity updates. You can disable notifications in your device settings at any time.
How we use this information
- To operate the core features of the app — showing you friends' activities, letting you coordinate plans, and sending relevant notifications.
- To suggest nearby activities or friends, and to personalize the discovery feed (including third-party events shown in the app, described below).
- To maintain the security and reliability of the service, and to diagnose bugs.
- We do not sell your personal information.
What's shared with other users
Yuki's core purpose is coordinating with people you know, so some information is visible to other users by design, scoped to who you've chosen to share it with:
- Your profile (username, display name, avatar, bio) is visible to your friends, and depending on an activity's visibility setting, potentially to a wider group.
- Your location, only if you've turned location sharing on, is visible to the friends you've chosen to share it with.
- Activity participation (who's hosting, who's going) is visible to people invited to or able to see that activity.
Third-party services
Yuki is built on top of a small number of infrastructure and data providers:
- Supabase — our database, authentication, and file storage provider.
- Google Firebase — push notifications and app hosting.
- Google / Apple Sign-In — used to authenticate you; we receive your name and email from whichever you choose, not your password.
- Google Maps — powers map display and location features.
- Event and venue data providers (e.g. Ticketmaster, Cineplex, SeatGeek) — used to show nearby public events in the app's discovery feed. Using this feature does not share your personal information with these providers; we only query them for event listings.
Each of these providers has its own privacy practices governing the infrastructure they provide to us.
Data retention and deletion
We retain your information for as long as your account is active. If you'd like your account and associated data deleted, contact us at the email below and we'll process the request.
Security
Information sent between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Access to your data is restricted by database-level access rules scoped to your account and what you've chosen to share. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.
Children's privacy
Yuki is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your region). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll remove it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain uses of it. Contact us at the email below to make a request.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app develops. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
